winter-solstice

Tomorrow is the Winter Solstice! We will mark the shortest day and longest night with special celebrations throughout the school. Children in all classes have been busy baking bread, making art, and composing songs in order to share gratitude and spread kindness throughout our school community. In celebration of Solstice, Charlie will be building and tending a fire tomorrow. We will celebrate nature's life force and the magic and hope of seasonal change by gathering, singing, and filling our Wishes and Hopes Baskets. We are constructing baskets from natural materials and the children will be invited to place their wishes and hopes for the New Year inside. The baskets will be placed on the fire and we will watch as our wishes and hopes turn to light and heat and are sent up into the universe! All of us at Leila Day wish you a peaceful and beautiful Winter Solstice and a joyful New Year, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on January 2nd.
